Performer
Ryan John is a full time music teacher at Léman Manhattan Preparatory School in New York City where he teaches the 6th-12th grade choirs, digital music, and instrumental group lessons. He serves as the music director for Léman Main Stage musicals as well as the coordinator of the Léman Conservatory private lesson program. The Digital Music course hecreated was featured in Business Insider and has fostered award-winning student work. Ryan holds a Bachelor of Music in Education with a minor in Music Theater and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Westminster Choir College of Rider University.
As a performer, Ryan has substantial experience as a member of several acclaimed American choirs. He currently sings with Downtown Voices at Trinity Wall Street under Stephen Sands and The Same Stream under James Jordan. He was a member of the Westminster Williamson Voices for 4 years, whose recording of James Whitbourn's Annelies received a 2014 GRAMMY nomination for Best Choral Performance. As a member of the renowned Westminster Symphonic Choir, he sang under many of the world's leading conductors and orchestras including Gustavo Dudamel (Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra), Alan Gilbert (New York Philharmonic), Esa-Pekka Salonen (Philharmonia Orchestra), Yannick Nézet-Séguin (Philadelphia Orchestra), Daniel Barenboim (West-Eastern Digan Orchestra), and Daniel Harding (Dresden Staatskapelle). In addition, Ryan has performed as a member the New York Chamber Choir under Alistair Hamilton. He has appeared on several studio and live recordings released by labels such as Naxos and Verve. With a strong interest in musical theater and drama, Ryan has performed professionally in a number of regional, community, and school productions.
